Wrexham... In Focus

Last updated : 13 December 2006 By Gary Moss

Wrexham sit worryingly in 18th in the table at the moment. As with many of the sides at the bottom it's inconsistency that has cost the Dragons.

Smith: Inconsistency wrangles the manager
They've won just one of their last six on their travels but have lost just one in six at home. Another problem is that they have yet to secure back to back league wins. If only they could find a bit of rhythm, they could be quite a force.

Dennis Smith's men are just three points above the drop zone but on the other hand only nine from the play-offs.

But with Swindon, Walsall and Darlington all to come over the next month, they could see a late surge for the play-offs fade away.

What could also shape the Dragons season is the seriousness of the knee injury to 22-year-old midfielder Mark Jones.

A season that held so much promise seems to be falling apart for the boys from the Racecourse Ground, and their lack of a potent goal scorer may be the reason for this. Apart from Jones and Chris Llewellyn with five a piece, goals have not been regular from any other source.

But, with a fit again Jones and Chris Llewellyn hitting full potential, this could all turn around after Christmas.

Manager: Denis Smith

Evans... In fine form this term

League position (on 13th December 2006): 18th

Top goalscorer: Chris Llewellyn and Mark Jones both have seven goals

Goals Scored: 20

Goals Conceded: 33

Player of the season so far: Creative presence Steve Evans has been an ever-present this season. At the centre of most of Wrexham's promise.

Against Notts: A 2-1 win for the Magpies at Meadow Lane. Andy Parkinson and Jason Lee on the score sheet. Notts travel to Wrexham in April.

Drapes' Prediction: The Dragons will turn things around according to editor Drapes: A respectable 11th.
