Whiley on Notts

Mark Whiley is currently covering Lincoln City for the Lincolnshire Echo but spent last season as Boston United correspondant.

Notts yesterday announced the signing of defender Lee Canoville who played for the Pilgrims last season, so what does Whiley think of him, and other Notts issues?

Whiley on: CANOVILLE
Canoville..."Athletic"

"I think he will be alright. He's mainly a right-back but he can play centre-back aswell.

"To be fair I think he is a bit overated, but he was seen as Boston's most valuable player. I can remember him having a couple of absolute shockers though. But I think he will do better in a better team.

"He is athletic, pacey and good in the air. Certainly not many wingers in League Two will do him for pace.

"Sometimes he does look a little bit laid back and he sometimes lacks in concentration."

Whiley on: NOTTS

"I can see them making the play-offs. Thompson's made some good signings and as much as it pains me to say so (as a Lincoln City fan), I do think Notts will make the play-offs."

Whiley on: THOMPSON

"He is a hard man to judge really, he was out of the game for so long before he got the Notts job.

Thompson..."Did a good job last season"
"To be fair I think he did a good job for you last year even though some fans got on his back.

"He certainly seems a good salesman and is good at getting in some good players and he does come across as a good man-manager.

"What does get to me a bit is that he sometimes doesn't do interviews after games like last season when Boston played there he sent Jason Lee out.

"With him being a bit outspoken you would have thought he would always want to come out and make his feelings known.

"But I think he will do well for Notts this year."

Whiley on: LEAGUE TWO

"Peterborough United should win it by a bit I'd imagine, if they don't you'd want to know why.

"There is also something about the MK Dons who today signed Drewe Broughton and that is a good move for Drewe.

"It amazed me that they got £300,000 for Clive Platt because he was rubbish.

"I can't really see the teams that have came down from League One being that great although Rotherham are perhaps the most likely to challenge.

"In general I just think the league will not be as tough as it was last season.

"Lincoln City will finish 10th or 11th because they weren't good enough last season and the squad just seems to have got weaker."
