Sven's Meadow Lane switch

Events have been moving on apace today in one of the most monumental days in Notts County’s long history.

After the news was broken on NottsCounty-Mad last night that Sven Goran Eriksson, the ex-England manager, was to become director of football, the reaction of the Notts faithful was one of disbelief and amusement. However, as Tuesday has unfolded, the story has unfolded apace in the national media, and excitement is building around Meadow Lane Sven is to be appointed as director of football at Meadow Lane.

SvenThe Sun was the first paper to pick up on the story, suggesting Sven was to replace Ian McParland and become manager at the “League 2 Minnows”, in the early hours of this morning. The Telegraph and The Times subsequently ran pieces on the Swede, seemingly confirming the speculation was true and Sven is in talks with Peter Trembling over taking charge of Notts’ inevitable march to the Premiership.

The Times has subsequently said “it is thought that Eriksson would be brought in to work alongside Ian McParland, the present manager, in either a director of football or ambassadorial role if a deal is reached.” This appears to be nearer to the mark, and has been backed up by reports on Sky Sports News and the BBC in the past few hours, proclaiming the story to be “incredible”, and few would disagree.

Colin Slater has recently been interviewed on Sky Sports News, proclaiming the appointment of Sven to be “the biggest appointment in Notts County’s history, proof of Notts’ ambition, that Munto Finance mean business. If we can get 2 twenty goal-a-season men, at this level...the sky is the limit”.

It has certainly given the club much-needed publicity – Notts have been the main story on Sky Sports News for the first time in living memory. Keep checking on NCM for further updates as they emerge.
