Final Position: 22
Top Goalscorer: Kevin McIntyre (9)
Player of the Season: John Murphy
Murphy, 30, may only have scored nine goals in all competitions this season for the Silkmen but nearly all of them have meant something. Crucial goals against Wrexham, Accrington Stanley and Swindon this season may just be the kind of moments that fans of the
He will also be remembered as the man who sent travelling supporters delirious at
His contribution has been priceless this year- he has been head and shoulders above the rest since his move from League One club
He scores and creates goals because of his ability to find space and draw others into play.
Against Notts: Notts could only pick up a point over struggling
Most recently, County picked up a 1-1 draw at Moss Rose on the final day of the league season. John Miles' early effort was cancelled out by Magpies Andy Parkinson. The draw was enough to secure Macclesfield's safety.
The Silkmen visited
Colin Heath and Kevin McIntyre netted first half goals to seal the points in their 2-1 win.
Defining Moment: The appointment of player-manager Paul Ince.
He turned the club around and ensured survival which never looked a possibility. In the opening games of the season, Macclesfield looked hopeless and it seemed as if only a miracle would keep them up. That miracle was Paul Ince.
Highlight: It took Macclesfield until December to pick up their first league win and it came away at now crowned champions
This began a ten match unbeaten run for the side from Moss Rose. The run was enough to lift tem out of the League Two drop zone and it is above the bottom two they then stayed.
It is without any doubt it was this run that kept the Silkmen in the Football League.
Lowlight: The sacking of Brian Horton after just twelve games. The Silkmen were rooted to the bottom of the division without a win to their name. Fans must have been preparing for life in the National Conference. Little did they know of the great escape to come.
The Mad Verdict: A truly remarkable season for
In no other season however will you ever see a side in such poor form as Torquay but if it wasn't for the Gulls lack of fight it could well have been the non-league for Paul Ince's team.
I honestly believe it was Torquay that saved them in the end. The Silkmen hit another slump late on winning just one their final six league games. Macclesfield really rode their luck this year.
Looking into the start of the season, Brian Horton had a great campaign last time around but he just couldn't seem to get anything from his squad in the early part of the campaign.
Maybe sacking him after just twelve games was both harsh and far too early but in the end it was appointment of Paul Ince that give the Silkmen a lease of new life to beat the almost inevitable drop.
What's Next? Keeping hold of boss Paul Ince would in itself be another minor miracle.
The charismatic chief has shown his value and is already being banded around as the next manager of a whole host of Championship clubs.
It is no real surprise when you consider what a superb job he has done at Macclesfield.
But, Ince or no Ince the objective is clear. The Silkmen must ensure they get off to a much better start next season or face another campaign of fighting at the wrong end of the table.
