Hereford United... In Focus

Last updated : 14 December 2006 By Paul Smith

Invariably, there is always a side who come up from the Conference and continue in their stride once competing in League 2. This season it has been Hereford who have made the biggest impact of the promoted sides, with Accrington Stanley currently towards the bottom.

Turner...the strains of being in charge
Indeed, Graham Turner, Chairman and Manager, has masterminded a first half of the campaign that sees them sitting just outside the Playoff's. With the hectic Christmas period upon us, and games against other sides pushing for the top seven in Notts County, Bristol Rovers and Wycombe Wanderers, Hereford have the chance to push their way right into the mix.

There is no doubting their potential to succeed. Their form at their home, Edgar Street, needs sorting out, with only four wins in eleven games. If they changed some of their draws into three points, Turner may be on course to push for a second successive promotion.

Only sixteen different outfield players have appeared for the Bulls, and the consistent team selection, aided by the fact they can score from all over the field, has helped the sides cause.

However, perhaps the best moment of the season so far came just last weekend during the home draw with struggling Torquay United. The opposition had the ball in Hereford's penalty area and the man in possession tumbled to the ground in anguish. The referee awarded a penalty, but was overruled by his linesman who spotted that the player had actually been felled by his team mate! The team mate had incredibly chopped his forward's legs almost in half!

Manager: Graham Turner

League position (on December 14th 2006): 12th

Beckwith...Ever-present

Top goalscorer: Robert Purdey with nine.

Goals scored: 24

Goals against: 24

Player of the season so far: Defender Dean Beckwith ties with Purdey. Beckwith has been the only ever present for the Bulls, and a rock in the heart of a good defence. Purdey's goals have made a difference.

V Notts: Yet to meet, Notts entertain Hereford on 23rd December, whilst the reverse fixture comes on 27th January.

Drapes' Prediction: 12th. The inconsistent home form means they will remain just outside.
