Chester City... In Focus

Last updated : 14 December 2006 By Paul Smith

Whenever League 2 manage to get national media coverage, you hardly hear Chester register. They are neither here nor there, up nor down, prominent or, well, they just aren't prominent.

Wright...Controversial
They are a side, under the leadership of the controversial Mark Wright, who will produce the odd shock win, they beat the MK Dons 2-1 away from home. In truth, they have never been given a hammering, there heaviest defeat being just 2-0, against both Hereford and Grimsby, but they remain a side who nobody seems to fear.

Other than fierce neighbours Wrexham, nobody seems to care when they are playing them, with their modest stadium, lack of stand out players and almost lack of optimism.

Something about the club oozes pessimism and the average attendance at the Saunders Honda Stadium is little over the 2000 mark.

This season appears to be leaning towards another mid-table finish, with inconsistency the main problem, as many sides in League 2 can testify.

The form of Jon Danby in goal and the ageless Roberto Martinez, have allowed the fans to keep their hopes alive, but it is unlikely to see them even bid for a Playoff spot.
