Matt Somner...7

Kevin Pilkington. Had little to do in the way of shot stopping, and certainly can not be faulted when it came to the goal. Did what he had to do with the

Pipe... An eye elsewhere?
minimal of fuss, though his kicking ability remains a big question mark. 6

David Pipe. We want the Pipe of last season to return. Looked almost bored yesterday and rather went through the motions. He is rightly so a fans favourite for his good work at Notts, but he appeared a player looking elsewhere against Darlington. Forever on the periphery of things. Unfairly booked though for one great challenge. 5

Austin McCann. A good display from the full back. Had a game on his hands against the tricky Wainwright but definitely came out on top in that particular duel. His crossing was dangerous too, with Lee linking up with him well. 7

Mike Edwards. Not a foot wrong as usual, but in fairness was hardly troubled. Communicated effectively and worked hard for the cause. Should have won a penalty. 7

Michael Byron. Make no mistake, this was a very good showing by the Hull loanee. To say it was his first ever professional start, he showed no nerves and performed excellently. Solid in the tackle, Byron was outstanding in the air and looked like he could pick a pass too. Only black mark being skinned by Ravenhill. 8

Gary Silk. Not able to hit the heights of his Walsall performance, but remained a willing worker. No tackle fazes him and he will grow next season into an important Notts player. Determined customer but it appeared he was carrying an injury. 6

Matt Somner. Used the ball well, and held his position. Didn't concede possession and looked like a player determined to play a big part next season. On this display he will be a good player to have on board. Tackled well throughout. 7

Parkinson... Improved as game wore on
Jay Smith.
Notts' creative spark blew hot and cold. Looked dangerous in the area and had Notts fans willing the ball to fall to him. However, didn't impose himself as we know he can. 6

Lawrie Dudfield. Superb in recent weeks, Dudfield was a bit of a let down against the Quakers. Quiet and ineffective when in possession, the silky skills and goal threat were missing. An economical performance at best. 6

Jason Lee. Always a threat, the big man won most balls in the air and produced a wonder save from Russell. A positive impact throughout and he stayed out of the referee's notebook! 8

Andy Parkinson. Poor in the first half when he was knocked off the ball on several occasions, 'Parky' livened up after the break and came close with a couple of efforts. However, his appetite wasn't always matched by his execution, meaning a goal was unlikely to come from the Liverpudlian. 6

Subs.

Dan Martin (for Silk '65) Didn't make an impact owing to the stop start nature of the game. One good corner produced a chance but will be hoping to start next week to prove his obvious talents. 6

Michael Byron

James Walker (for Dudfield '75) No time to get involved, particularly with Notts on the back foot at this time. Another who Notts fans would like to see start at Macclesfield. 6

Ian Ross (for Somner '85) Not enough time.
