Match Ratings vs. Shrewsbury Town

Last updated : 09 August 2006 By Rob Davies
A poor game to watch, that makes for a poor set of individual ratings.

Steve Thompson has pleaded for time and patience with such a brand new squad and, who are we to deny him it?

We are still unbeaten, after all.

(6 Average)

Kevin Pilkington - 7, After a nervous showing on the season's opener, Pilkington was back to his assured best for the visit of Shrewsbury. One top-draw save from Asamoah summed-up a good night's work.

Gary Silk - 6, Tremendous enthusiasm in his support of Pipe, but his undoubted effort wasn't matched by his final delivery, which often let him down.

Alan White - 5, Dominant in the air but, in his individual battle with Asamoah, there was only one winner. White's old school style wasn't able to stop the lightening-quick striker, who got the better of him on more than one occasion.

Mike Edwards - 7, While in the summer Edwards admitted he will have to fight for his place under Thompson, he is already establishing himself as a certainty for the line-up. Another solid showing which was capped by the scoring of the equaliser.

Austin McCann - 7, Star man. Supremely composed in possession, tough in the tackle and solid in the air, McCann has now started to live to his billing as the Division's best left full-back. Easily Notts' best player on the night.

David Pipe - 6, Like the full-back behind him, Pipe was unable to match his supreme energy levels with a quality final ball that would often have created a worthwhile chance for the service-starved frontmen.

Matt Somner - 5, Tigerish in the tackle at the weekend, Somner was unable to stamp his mark on this game in the same manner.

Ian Ross - 5, Like so many creative midfielders before him in a Notts shirt, Ross was often by-passed by a game more suited to the rough and tumble, kick as far as you can style of League Two player. Need to utilise his strengths if he's to be in the team.

Andy Parkinson - 5, Unable to really use his undoubted pace in the manner he did at the weekend. One to forget.

Lawrie Dudfield - 5, Withdrawn early-on for the second successive game, Dudfield is enduring a slow start to his Notts County career. Though starved of quality service, the striker will expect - and need - to improve his all-round game if he's to get near the 20-goal target he set himself at the start of the campaign.

Junior Mendes - 6, Produced lively runs down the channels, but was often ignored as Notts took the easy option all-too often. Saw one half-decent effort fly into the side-netting.

Subs

TCham N'Toya (Dudfield, 65) - 6, Suffered from a lack of service and needs the ball played to his feet if he is to truly be utilised to maximum effect. Held the ball up well for the majority, but was unable to get in the areas where it counted.

Jake Sheridan (Mendes, 79) - 6, Brought-on too late to have any real impact, but showed glimpses of the pace and skill that made him one of the club's best players throughout pre-season.

Tom Curtis (Ross, 84) - 6, Too late to make an impact.

Not Used: Deeney, Hunt.
