Match Ratings vs. Lincoln City

(6 Average)

Kevin Pilkington - 6, Under renewed pressure after the re-signing of Saul Deeney, the nervousness of the all-new Magpies was best illustrated by the display of Pilkington. Though much-improved after the break, the keeper was at fault for the Imps' opener and was lucky to get away shortly after following a complete mis-punch.

Gary Silk - 7, The former Portsmouth youngster comes highly-recommended and he proved why on his full debut with a hugely promising display. Aided Pipe throughout, the full-back contributed both in defence and attack.

Alan White - 6, Club captain has been brought-in as the voice of the back four, but he struggled to cope amidst the barrage of Lincoln attacks in the first half. Grew in the second half, with his aerial strength also a key weapon at offensive set-pieces.

Mike Edwards - 7, Amidst all of the new arrivals, Edwards remains a key performer in the heart of the back four. Mr Consistent showed signs that his goal-scoring abilities in the previous campaign weren't a one-off, twice coming close.

Austin McCann - 6, Endured the worst starts of all the debutants to his Notts career, but showed good character to contribute to the comeback.

David Pipe - 8, Star man. Different season, same old Pipey. Proving himself to a new manager, the Welshman was a key influence even before the half-time interval revitalised his team-mates. Produced a number of excellent deliveries to go alongside his usual all-action work rate, the 22-year-old remains the club's key player.

Matt Somner - 7, Ferocious in the tackle, Somner proved his inclusion instead of the more experienced Tom Curtis was warranted.

Ian Ross - 7, Stiffled in the first half as Notts were pressed back, Ross was re-born in the second half as the Magpies took control. Supplying the widemen with ammo, it is hoped that, in Ross, Notts finally have the ball-playing midfielder they have been lacking for almost a decade.

Andy Parkinson - 8, Alongside Pipe, the Magpies now have a pair of wingers genuinely capable of causing problems at this level. Consistency will be the key, but Parkinson enjoyed a truly outstanding second half at Sincil Bank. Teasing and tormenting the home defence, the diminutive forward was unlucky not to mark his second Notts County debut by getting on the scoresheet.

Lawrie Dudfield - 6, Possessing arguably the strongest reputation of all of the four new strikers, Dudfield struggled to latch-on to Lee's flick-ons and, despite making a number of clever runs, made way for Mendes in the 55th minute.

Jason Lee - 7, In a first half where Notts failed to find any fluency to their play, Lee was a welcome outlet, holding the ball up strongly and bringing his team-mates into play. The much-criticised hitman was the focal point of the Notts attack, before withdrawing with an injury that could rule him out of Tuesday night's visit of Shrewsbury.

Subs

Junior Mendes (Dudfield, 55) - 7, Following his top-draw display in the final friendly, Mendes again had a positive impact as a substitute. Skillful and supremely quick, the striker can surely expect a starting berth in mid-week.

Tcham N'Toya (Lee, 67) - 6, Toiled away in attack with little reward. A lively character who will be an interesting one to watch as the season progresses.

Tom Curtis (Ross, 80) - 6, Provided a much-needed steadying influence as the game broke into its closing stages.

Not Used: Deeney, Gleeson.
