Match Ratings V Wrexham

Last updated : 10 April 2007 By Paul Smith

Kevin Pilkington. First time in his Notts career the goalkeeper has kept four consecutive clean sheets. Despite hardly being stretched - Wrexham failed to have a shot on target - Pilkington was busy and he commanded his box well. 7

Gary Silk. Brilliant in midfield on Saturday, Silk continued his good form back at full-back with a no-nonsense, determined display. Didn't offer as much of a threat going forward as in previous matches, but did his job perfectly at the back. 7

McCann... Looked dazed througout
Mike Edwards.
What a season he is having. Was superb once again and along with Hunt, the chief reason Notts are only three points from the top seven owing to his solidity at the back. Headed, tackled and blocked all game. 9

Stephen Hunt. You could almost re-read what has been said of Edwards for Hunt. Both have been that good, and today Hunt was even named Captain. His pace meant Llewellyn was hardly a threat. 9

Austin McCann. If Wrexham were going to score, it was most likely to have been through the Scotsman who didn't have a particularly good day. Poor in possession, McCann wasn't his usual self and looked nervy. 5

Ian Ross. Once again ineffective. Ross still has his sights on regular Premiership football, but his passing - said to be his major attribute - was often very poor. Drifted in and out of the game, with nothing of note. 5

Jay Smith. Very quiet for the majority of the match, Smith popped up like all quality players do with the key pass for the Notts winner. A delightful ball found Walker who crossed for Spender's OG. That one bit of magic was enough, and kissing the badge further endeared him. 7

Matt Somner. This was a game Somner loves to play in. The Racecourse was like a battle ground at times, and how the tough tackler battled. Guilty of giving too many free-kicks away, Somner did perform well, though one goal doesn't make him Gerrard he must be told! 7

Smith... One bit of quality

Lawrie Dudfield. Something of a fans favourite because of his effort and dribbling skills, Dudfield still can't find the net and was quiet overall today. Starting to become less effective owing to a shortage in confidence that has seen no goal in twelve now. Worked hard but wasn't effective in possession. 6

James Walker. Displaced top scorer Lee showing the managers faith in him and he performed okay. didn't set the world alight but was bright and worked hard all game. His cross led to the winner showing he never gave up hope. 7

Andy Parkinson. Has been in good form during the past two games, but despite his liveliness he couldn't produce today. His final ball was missing but as usual he never gave up. 6

Subs.

Myles Weston (for Parkinson '53). Buzzed around effectively and took the pressure off the Notts backline at crucial times with his determined dribbling. Looks a real asset and may start next time. 7

Edwards... celebrates but has to share NCM's Man of the Match award
Jason Lee (for Ross '54).
Couldn't add to his 16 goals but luckily wasn't booked! Looked a handful and held the ball up well but didn't get involved too near the Wrexham goalmouth. 6

Tcham N'Toya (for Dudfield '73). Wanted the ball and tried to make things happen, but he didn't get much of a looking with Notts mainly on the back foot. Was in the box as Notts celebrated the winner. 6

Drapes' Men of the Match - Mike Edwards and Stephen Hunt…too close to choose.
