Match ratings v Macclesfield... Including Paul Mayo... 8

Average - 6

Russell Hoult. All he had to do in the first half was pick the ball out of the back of the net. In the second he failed to collect one cross and didn't

command his box as greatly as he could have. That said he made one superb save from a Jamie Tolley free-kick and couldn't be faulted for the goal. 6

Adam Tann.
Switched to right back, Tann didn't do a lot wrong and worked hard for the cause. Tried to help Ali Gibb out in attack and put himself about well from set pieces where he laid on a superb chance for Mike Edwards. 6

Mike Edwards.
How he missed an absolute sitter from inside the six yard box will never be known. Edwards, usually fairly reliable in that position based on a healthy past goalscoring record from defence for Notts, squandered two good chances. Defensively he did his job. 6

Stephen Hunt.
Back in the side after injury, and back in the centre after spending time at left-back before his knock. Hunt didn't look match fit and must be a serious doubt to keep his place with Michael Johnson back at the club. Seemed to dally as Macc took the lead, and overall his distribution wasn't great. Nowehere near his normal self. 5

Mayo... Great game
Paul Mayo.
STAR MAN. Much improved after a poor showing last week, Mayo was in good form and illustrated the form that heralded decent reviews early on in the season. If he can find some consistency then he should stay in Ian McParland's plans despite being seemingly out of them until Hunt picked up his injury. Worked hard, made two or three crucial blocks and got forward well. Just as good when moved onto the wing. 8

Ali Gibb.
Despite considerable praise in the week from McParland, it is difficult to see Gibb making a lasting impression with Notts, after another below average showing. Gibb didn't test Town in an attacking capacity at all, and for all his commitment, he continuously passed backwards. Simply no threat and not involved at all. 4

Richard Butcher.
He only went and did it again. A superb strike, possibly his best out of the eleven he has netted from midfield - some record for any midfielder, let along one in a struggling League Two outfit. Again a Butcher goal hasn't produced a win, but what an invaluable strike. Fairly quiet otherwise, and missed a better chance, but if all he does is score, that is enough at this moment. 7

Jay Smith.
Scrapped well but lacked a bit of quality at times, guilty of losing

possession too easily. Smith has to play more withdrawn lately owing to the lack of a natural holding midfielder. That has harmed his attacking instincts a little, but he needs to be more disciplined. 6

Myles Weston.
Was looking in fine form, just as he was in the first halves of Notts' last two outings, before he seemed to pick up another hamstring injury. If he is absent for a while that is a big loss to Notts given he is looking better than he has so far. Terrific speed and skill worried Macclesfield constantly. 7

Ryan Jarvis.
Foraged well throughout and was unlucky that a clear chance didn't fall to him. Had an early sniff but dallied on the ball, but wasn't given the greatest service. Put himself about well, but to little avail. 6

Lee argues his case late on
Danny Crow.
A few neat touches, and he always showed for the ball. Missed a decent early chance, but had he been sniffing around instead of Edwards it would have been different. Therefore he could have done more to get into better positions. 5

Subs

Michael Johnson. (for Weston, 41).
Showed his class with fine display at left back and centre back. Raised eyebrows by dropping so low, but the returning hero is clearly up for a scrap. Has played in the Premiership, and starred in the Championship this season, so he will be a fine asset. Won everything that came his way. 7

Neil MacKenzie (for Gibb, 64).
Showed a couple of clever touches and looked to involve himself. No killer ball but he should start next week. 6

Jason Lee (for Hunt, 64).
Added weight to late Notts attacks. 6
