Match ratings v Chesterfield... Including Lee Canoville 7

Last updated : 29 September 2007 By Paul Smith
Kevin Pilkington. In fantastic form. Never seen the experienced stopper command his area so well. Caught everything that came his way and never looked like being beaten. If he continues this showing Notts will pick up plenty of clean sheets. 8
Tann... Man of the match

Lee Canoville. Possibly his best Notts game. Still needs to up his distribution but he won every tackle, including some crucial ones, and looked more than up to the task of keeping out a strong Spireite attack. 7

Adam Tann. STAR MAN Continued his great efforts last week with a sterling display. Up against Jack Lester, nothing fazed Tann who cleared everything with ease and contributed massively to the clean sheet with his head, foot and blocking. Looks every inch the signing he was expected to be with much class and determination alongside his composure. 8

Stephen Hunt. Skilfully grabbed the games only goal and defended as if his life depended on it thereafter. Won NCM's big battle with Steve Fletcher with ease meaning an easier weekend for his goalkeeper. 8

Paul Mayo. Hardly troubled and rarely involved going forward. The former Lincoln man has enjoyed a great start to his Notts career and it continued today with an efficient, if not spectacular, showing. 6

Richard Butcher. Started very brightly with some clever touches, much improved from last week. Didn't exactly take the game by the scruff of the neck but was always willing and always probing while defending well. 7

Matt Somner. Another great showing from Notts' newly crowned unsung hero. Won his tackles and passed the balll very well, keeping it simple at all times. Becoming an increasingly vital part of the team. 8

Sam... decent display
Neil MacKenzie.
Fizzed in and out of the game. When he was on form he looked good but would then disappear. With Notts on the backfoot it wasn't really MacKenzie's game, but another pleasing afternoon anyhow. 6

Spencer Weir-Daley. The expectation seemed to get to him and he worked hard to no avail at times. Rarely given a sniff he will experience much better days and will be looking for more oppurtunities next week. 6

Jason Lee. Didn't hold the ball up well enough but was always availlable and helped out considerably defensively. Hard working and passionate, Lee led the line well but didn't threaten too much. 6

Hector Sam. A surprise starter given Lawrie Dudfield's showing last week, Sam was eager from the off but lacked the finishing touches to make a difference. Held it up well and kept it simple but never penetrated. 6

Substitutions.

Lawrie Dudfield (for Sam, 23) Very good showing. Worked very hard defensively, playing as a right back at times and not shirking his responsibilities. Should have started and showed good touches. 7

Andy Parkinson (for Weir-Daley, 68) Buzzed about but with little impact. 6

Gary Silk (for MacKenzie, 79) Made an extra defensive contribution and looked willing. 6
