Considered match ratings v Mansfield Town

Average - 6

Russell Hoult. Came through the game unscathed despite an almighty scare in the warm up when it looked like he wouldn't play after hobbling off. That considered, he performed admirably and dealt with everything he had to.

Hoult... Survived scare for another clean sheet
Another clean sheet, and his vocal presence is clearly a huge factor in the defensive record. 7

Adam Tann. Back at right back, Tann was fairly poor in possession and wasted a couple of opportunities to get forward and use the ball well in Town's half. Defended well as ever, particularly in the second half when he got to grips with visiting danger man Nathan Arnold. 7

Mike Edwards. STAR MAN. Kept Michael Boulding quiet for most of the game, and when the Stags top scorer did threaten, it wasn't down Edwards' side. Mr dependable came up with the perfect defensive display and won every header and every tackle that he needed to. Composure personified. 8

Michael Johnson. Wasn't called into the action as much as Edwards, but did just as good a job with what he had to do. 'Johnno' put himself about across the backline and played another big role in yet another clean sheet. 7

Paul Mayo. So inconsistent. As good as he was against Rochdale, the former Lincoln City man was poor here. Terrible in possession, he received one hell of a rollicking from Johnson for one laboured effort, but produced one vital header from under his goal to keep the Stags at bay. 5

Richard Butcher. Industrious and economical, Butcher did his best to drive Notts forward. Had plenty of attempts on goal but didn't look like troubling

Butcher... Always willing
Carl Muggleton and adding to his impressive goals tally. That said, he was doing his best to get a goal and he worked well. 7

Gary Silk. One of his better games for a while, Silk worked hard and just about edged a decent midfield battle with Stephen Dawson. Put a number of solid challenges in and even did a silky skill on the edge of the Town box which created an opportunity. Still can't pass at all well however. 7

Jay Smith. Worked hard but plays much deeper these days than he should be doing. It has clearly worked from a defensive point of view, but Smith is at his best getting into the final third and he must do this more. Too many lofted balls gave away possession. 6

Wayne Corden. Flitted in and out of the game against his former employers. Corden showed two or three touches of class but wasn't involved as heavily as Notts would have liked. Put in a couple of decent crosses but can do a lot more. 6

Ryan Jarvis. Possibly his most ineffective game yet. The on loan front man couldn't get into the game and seemed jaded for all his recent efforts. Didn't look like troubling the score sheet and his hold up play was poor. 5

Crow... Better in second half

Danny Crow. Got better in the second half where he looked a threat, but his hold up play was also poor and that contributed in a loss of possession too often in the final third. Better in the second, he hit a couple of decent shots. 6

Subs

Spencer Weir-Daley (for Jarvis, 79). Nearly got a dramatic last minute winner with a lovely turn and shot that seemed to be heading in before a deflection. 6
