NCM aids 'hunt' for Scanlon

Last updated : 11 April 2008 By Rob Davies

A notorious recluse, Scanlon maintains cult status amongst Magpies followers after once scoring a hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday in 165 seconds back in 1974.

There has been much speculation as to his current whereabouts, with both

Evening Post following Scanlon hat-trick
The Daily Telegraph and BBC Radio Nottingham's Colin Slater on the quest to locate the former Notts winger, who returned to play in his native Scotland after leaving the Magpies in the late 1970s.

And, in its latest article trying to locate Scanlon, The Telegraph mentions a post on the NCM Messageboard suggesting that he is still living in Paisley, a place he often insisted during his playing career he wanted to get away from.

Harder to track-down than Lord Lucan, Scanlon has frequently been the source of debate on the NCM Messageboard a long time before Slater and The Telegraph begun their search.

It is often claimed that he disappeared from Notts after receiving a large inheritence, though this has never been confirmed. The Telegraph also quotes a post on the NCM Messageboard claiming that the inheritence was in fact an oil well and Scanlon has now gone into oil management.

At arguably one of the lowest ebbs in the club's history, NCM is happy to help track down a figure who reminds us of happier times in the club's long and established history.

To visit the article in today's Daily Telegraph, type 'Ian Scanlon, Notts County Mad' into Google and visit the first site it brings which will be the Telegraph's.
