Junior Mendes: What it means for Lincoln City

Lincoln City have finally bagged striker Junior Mendes on loan from Notts County. Having rejecting a trial offer back in August 2001, Mendes has finally agreed to join the Imps for their end of season play-off chase.

Mendes, 30, will be available to face Barnet at Sincil Bank this Saturday in a crucial match up for City.

The former Stags hit man brings a wealth of experience to John Schofield's squad and is now the Imps' sixth striker on the books.

Fifth in the table at present, Lincoln need all the attacking prowess possible as they hope to force their way into League One for next season.

Mendes has netted just five goals so far this season for County but cutting it at every level in his career so far, the front man is certainly an exciting prospect for the City faithful.

Joining former Huddersfield Town team mate Nat Brown, will be the least of Mendes' interests but they will be looking to replicate their play-off winning campaign of 2004 in firing City into the third tier of English football.

Schofield is now spoilt for choice up front with top scorer Jamie Forrester back in the team alongside Mark Stallard hitting top form. With Dany N'Guessan close to making a return and Spencer Weir-Daley showing the manager's shrewd eye for a signing already, Mendes could prove yet another valuable acquisition.

Mendes will spend an initial one month at Sincil Bank, but with the 30-year-old said to have a rift with Thompson, it could become a permanent move. He has a contract beyond this summer, but there will no doubt be some cheap negotiating to get him off the wage bill in the summer.
