Oppositions View - Darlington

Last updated : 11 February 2008 By Gary Moss
How do you assess your sides recent form?

CW: To be honest we have been poor of late. We did enjoy a mini revival but we play beter away from home than we do at home so watch out.

JL: Darlo have been doing well recently winning five out of the last six, but lost 2-0 to Wrexham two weeks ago, but on the whole we are doing well at the moment.

How do you see the title race? Who is involved in your opinion and are you confident?
Penney...In the title running

CW: I believe we will go up put it that way. The teams to challlange are MK Dons, Peterborough United, Hereford and Rotherham but it's all in our hands if we win our two games in hand and keep getting the results - I think we may be Champions come May. I think MK Dons, Darlo and Hereford will be in the top three. I hate to say it but Posh in the play-offs.

JL: MK Dons are in pole position but if Darlo win their two games in hand we'll be joint top. It's quite close at the top. There are some good teams like Hereford, Rotherham, Peterborough, but I'll have to say Darlo will win the league.

How much do you rate Dave Penney?

CW: He is great, he has turned our team around into a team who have a great chance of the title. We play really good football and knock it about rather than hoof and hope. We were very very average last season but he has signed some great players such as Foster and Wright. He has also brought back Valantine and the team is strong in every postion, so the future looks bright for Darlo with him in charge.

JL: Dave Penney's turned the team around like he did for Doncaster. He has brought his own players in and got rid of the dead wood that Dave Hodgson had, but praise has to go to the Chairman George Houghton for the turn
Mayo...Notts boy doing well
around.

How do you assess the contribution of Paul Mayo so far?

CW: Mayo has been a good signing. He is soild, he gets forward and has a great throw! He even scored onb his debut so i think he has been a good player for us in the time he has been here.

JL: Paul Mayo has been quality at the back scoring on his debut against Bury a couple of weeks back. He has done well to get into the squad since Darlo have have kept 19 clean sheets so far this season.

Who is your danger man?

CW: Our danger is our defence with 20 clean sheets and the penelty saving David Stockdale to beat we are a formidlbe bunch at the back but one man who stands out is Steve Foster. He is our captain and is immense at the back leading our team to glory.

JL: Darlo's danger man would be Tommy Wright up front. He has been
Wright...Man to watch
banging them in and is a real threat with the ball at his feet.

Who else should we look out for?

CW: TOMMY the hero WRIGHT 100% scoring machine.

JL: Also Richie Foran on the left has been amazing since his loan move from Southend - it is important that Notts County keep a close eye on him.

What did you make of the sides last meeting at your place?

CW: To be honest we should have won that day but you battled back and scored in the last minute! It was a good game early on in the season in sunny weather. Hopefully more of the same as long as Butcher doesn't score twice again.

JL: Darlo let the two points slide away in my opinion and Notts County were lucky to come away with a draw. The side was just starting to gel but now I think they can win. Notts County showed a lot of promise and should be higher up in the league.

What have you made of Notts' season so far?

Butcher...Double in reverse fixture
CW: They are a bit hit and miss. They tend to go out and play well against the big teams but always seem to do poorly against the lesser sides. They are near the foot of the table but they shouldn't be under-estimated as we saw at home.

JL: I am surprised at County's season. I thought they would be higher in the league as they have a good side, they have the potential to do well next season if they can stay up this season.

Where do you tink Darlington will finish?

CW: Hopefully in the number one slot.

JL: I predict Darlo will get promoted and i'm going to stick my neck out on the line and say we'll win the league, but to be honest I'd settle with promotion.

Where do you think Notts will finish?

CW: They will not go down - 17th.

JL: I predict that Notts County will finish near the top of the bottom half of the table, they have too much quality to get relegated and there are worse teams in the league than them like Mansfield, Dag & Red, Bury etc.

What sort of encounter are you expecting?

CW: I am expecting an open game and a good result for the Quakers. We need to win to keep us going so it will be tight game for sure.

JL: I think it will be an open game with Darlo using Foran on the wings and getting the ball forward with some slick passing.

Prediction?

CW: 2-0 Darlo!

JL: I think Darlo will win 3-0 they have the best away record in the league scoring the most goals.
