Opposition's View - Barnet

With Notts set to travel to Underhill to face Barnet in League Two on Saturday, NCM caught up with Eric Hitchmo of the excellent Barnet fansite Downhill Second Half and had a chat about Ian Hendon and whether the Bees can surprise a few people this year.

1. Up in the play-offs after 4 games, that has to go down as a brilliant start. Did you see it coming?

In a way. We were pretty optimistic round here before the season started because of the way we have prepared for this season, especially compared to last. Our first XI looks pretty strong but we were always going to rely on steering clear of injuries. If we can do that, who knows, but it's obviously very early days yet.

2. You've managed to hold onto Albert Adomah and John O'Flynn so far. How important are those two to your chances?

Well we've made the start we've had without John O'Flynn so far so we seem to be OK! In all seriousness though, he will be the answer to the problem of finding someone in the box to finish the multitude of balls flying in from both wings. If we can get him fit and manage to keep him, he'll have a field day. He scored 17 in 32 starts last season in a woeful team. Adomah is obviously well hyped and can turn a game with one flash of brilliance. I can see them both going in January, if not by the end of this window. But if we can hold onto them, around the strong base we have, there's no reason we can't do pretty well, by our standards.

3. Ian Hendon is still well remembered at Meadow Lane, is he doing as well as the stats suggest since he took over?

Absolutely. Hendon has changed the way the team has been run and will take no rubbish. He was not afraid to clear out deadwood at the end of the season and bring in quality on a very tight budget. I like his no-nonsense style of management. It was slow to begin with, he was supposedly ninety minutes away from moving back to being assistant manager. Thankfully we smashed Bradford 4-1, and we all enjoyed that.

4. Aside from Adomah, is there anyone we should be wary of on Saturday and is there anyone you particularly fear on the Notts side?

Mark Hughes is a tough tackling midfielder and will give Bishop a run for his money. As for Bishop, a good player indeed, and he'll be influential in opposition. Not sure who will start on the left for us, Yannick Bolasie is tricky and very pacy like Adomah, but watch our for Albert Jarrett. He can beat a man, but take cover with his crossing, it could be perfect, or spoon anywhere into the ground. So mind your heads! As for County, Lee Hughes is obviously a class act and we'll have to be very watchful of him. Johnnie Jackson also a great signing. It's a team with quality all over it.

5. Do you think the arrivals of Sol Campbell, Sven and the vast sums of money Notts are spending is good for the division?

It'll be hard to tell the impact on the division really, because I imagine that before long County will be out of it and on their way up. It brings lots of patronising media attention to County and the rest of the league though. Journalists are loving the fact that Sven will be "slumming it" at Macclesfield and Barnet aren't they? I can just imagine your fans will get sick of it eventually. That said, I'm sure you won't get sick of the success it will bring, even if it does mean you have to be mentioned in the same sentence as Sven every single time you're on TV. You're not the Magpies anymore!

6. What do you think the season holds for both the Bees and the Magpies?

I think we'll do well but I'm not going to get carried away. I'd safely say that we won't get relegated. The top half is well within our grasp however, and perhaps more who knows? I can see County walking it really, if you keep amassing the calibre you have been. Still, I'll look forward to the return trip, if only for the superb night out that Nottingham offers.

7. Thanks Eric, finally a prediction for the game?

Oh I'm gonna sit on the fence and call it a draw. Mind you, we're 11/4 on bet365...very tempting...oh gowon then, 2-1 Barnet!
