Oppositions View - Blackpool

Last updated : 09 January 2003 By Rob Davies

HOW HAS YOUR SEASON BEEN SO FAR?
TW:
Better than yours so far!
SM: An excellent start to the season, followed by what I'm hoping of our one and only bad run.
PG: On a slide

WHO SHOULD THE NOTTS FANS WATCH OUT FOR IN YOUR SIDE AND WHY?
TW:
John Murphy, because he has been on a

'Wizard with the ball'
massive goal streak for a while and is likely to score again.
SM: Martin Bullock, winger plays either side and a wizard with the ball and extremely fast. Made man of the match numerous times.
PG: Richie Wellens orchstrates the team from midfield and Martin Bulloch because of his pace he can cause defences problems.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM YOU SIDE HAS AT THE MOMENT?
TW:
We have not won our last couple of league games and the points are vital to get a top six finish.
SM: Too many touches around the opposition’s area. Should go for route one, when around the penalty area, should then get 3/4 goals a game.
PG: Too many players are off the pace at the moment Blackpool clearly can play good football but are unable to adapt their game to counter good orgainsied opposition.

'Man for the job'
ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR MANAGER?
TW:
Yes I am, considering Steve McMahon was a former Liverpool player who has promoted us from division three and lead us to the top half of division two.
SM: Yes I believe he's the man for the job.
PG: Delighted, Steve McMahon has done wonders on a shoestring.

WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR TEAM’S BEST MATCH THIS SEASON?
TW:
I was proud of our 1-0 victory against Cardiff who were top of the league when we played them.
SM: Pool verses Port Vale, end to end stuff, but our passing was brilliant, believe me all the Managers are talking about our game style.
PG: The 1-0 victory at home to Cardiff City and in the Cup the 4-1 away victory at Barnsley in the first round.

WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR TEAM’S WORST MATCH THIS SEASON?
TW:
5-0 defeat away in the league at Brentford, an appalling game.
SM: Pool v Stockport, we gave them too much respect, they wanted to win every ball whilst still in a defensive mode, and they punished us with two lucky breaks.
PG: easy the 5-0 drubbing at Brentford we really went to pieces.

DO YOU HAVE ANY INJURIES TO KEY PLAYERS THAT COULD MEAN THEY MISS THE GAME?
TW:
Not that I know of.
SM: Hopefully Macca shouldn’t have any major problems. Tommy "J" should be fit.

HOW MANY OF YOUR FANS DO YOU EXPECT TO BE AT THE GAME?
PG: Sadly it will be down on recent games due to the run of poor league form but expect a gate of around 6,000

WHICH PLAYER WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO GET RID OF IN YOUR SQUAD AND WHY?
TW:
None.
SM: All our players have something to offer, the only beef I have is, If they think they are too good for this team "Prove it".
PG: Well we don't have a large squad and all our dead weight was offloaded during tthe Summer.

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU WILL FINISH THIS
Another trip to Cardiff on the cards?
SEASON REALISTICALLY?
TW:
6th.
SM: Play Offs "hopefully".
PG: about 10th we'd love a play-off place though!

WHICH NOTTS PLAYER DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FOR BLACKPOOL?
TW:
I don’t know the player’s name, but he scored 2 against Southport in the FA Cup. (Danny Allsopp – ED)

SCORE PREDICTION?
TW:
3-0 to us, after watching you play against Southport on match of the day, I had a bad impression of your side.
SM: Sorry, but I cant help thinking of 4-1 to the Pool. Best of luck anyway!
PG: We've lost four league games on the trot but our recent games have been against Wigan, QPR, Brentford, Crewe ets so we need to pick up points against lowly sides. I'm afraid nothing but 3 points against yourselves will do I think it will be 2-1 to Pool but the run may continue!!
