Behind Enemy Lines

Firstly, how do you think Chester will fair this season? Is it fitting that they've been highlighted as favourites and to 'do a donny'?

I honestly think we will do well. OK, I know losing your manager the day before the first game is not exactly ideal preparation but the squad that he has built up over the past two years and throughout this summer is very good. With the Wright new manager istalled (excuse the pun) I think the squad can only improve as the season progresses. I would be happy with a play-off place.

Out, Wright out
Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, how hard will the departure of Mark Wright and his right-hand man will hit Chester?

It's hard to say at the moment. It depends entirely upon how the squad reacts and how Ray Mathias (caretaker-manager) settles into the club. There have been rumours abounding for a long while amongst some Chester supporters that Wright was not particularly respected amongst the players beacuse of his hard-line approach so maybe the team will be hoyed by the news and go out and play a blinder tomorrow.

What do you make of the squad that Wright & co. have left behind?

It's an excellent squad that is well equipped for life in the Football League. Towards the end of last season we were left a bit threadbare in certain areas of the squad but Wright has gone out this season and made quality additions to the squad. We are well covered in defence now with Richard Hope and Darren Edmondson arriving from York City, Sean Hessey from Kilmarnock and the unknown quantity in Cortez Belle who can also play up front. In midfield we have acquired the excellent Stewart Drummond from Morecambe after a long pursuit for his signature. There is also the signings of Andy Roberts and Kevin Ellison as well as the reamergence of Andy Harris as an influential figure in the middle of the park. Up front the capture of Michael Branch is the one that has captured the imagination of the Chester faithful.

Which players will cause the League Two players problems this coming season - especially considering the quality in abundance you behold in Daryl Clare, Darryn Stamp and Michael Branch?

You have already mentioned our fearsome strike force and rightly so. They will be a force to be reckoned with this season but look out for Kevin Ellison too. He has been signed this week from Stockport County after impressing as a trialist during the pre-season games. He is fast, direct and posesses a good touch. Ben Davies will also impress if given the chance. He likes to shoot from distance and has scored a few belters during the summer.

Who is your tip for League Two this season?

Well if you believe the bookies then you can’t look any further than Northampton Town. They certainly do look a string outfit but I’d also expect to see yourselves fighting for a promotion spot along with the likes of Bristol Rovers, Wycombe, Oxford and Lincoln. It looks quite open and should be an excititng season.

Battle lines are drawn...
Where do you think Notts, and also Chester, will finish?

As I’ve already mentioned, I expect Notts to be up there somewhere. As for us, well if we get off to a good start and keep that winning habit from last season going then I can definitely see us clinching automatic promotion. I will settle for a play-off place though.

Finally, score prediction please...

I’m sorry to have to say this but I can see a goalless draw being on the cards here. Neither side will want to give anything away. With our mean defence though we could possible steal a sneaky 1-0 win.
