Spireites appoint Sheridan

Chesterfield have today become the final managerless League Two side to name their new gaffer, by confirming that former Oldham Athletic boss John Sheridan will become manager at Saltergate.

Sheridan, who left his post at Boundary Park towards the end of last season, is expected to have a pot of transfer money to spend due to Dave Allen's recent investment in the club, as the Spireites head into their final season playing at Saltergate. After Lee Richardson failed to guide the club to the play-offs two years in a row, he left the club at the end of the season, and Sheridan was favourite, along with Colin Calderwood, to take the job on.

One new signing at the club has already been confirmed by chairman Dave Hubbard, with young Wigan Athletic midfielder Lewis Montrose joining the Spireites on a free transfer following a successful loan spell to the end of last season. Sheridan's most important job may be to find a partner for prolific forward Jack Lester, who has struggled to find a consistent partner since Jamie Ward was sold to Sheffield United in January.
