Lowe signs for Bury

Rumoured Notts County target Ryan Lowe has today become Alan Knill's first summer signing at Bury, as he is set to sign a two-year deal at Gigg Lane. The striker was told he can leave relegated Chester City on a free transfer at the end of the season, after a fine campaign in which he struck 18 goals, including one home and away against the Magpies.

In February Ian McParland made a £20,000 bid to loan Lowe until the end of the season, before signing him on a permanent deal, but this was rejected by Chester as they hoped he could help keep them in the football league, but it was not to be. With chairman Steven Vaughan contemplating putting the club into administration however, Lowe was told he could leave at the end of the season along with other star player and high earner Kevin Ellison, who has joined Rotherham United.

In the game at Meadow Lane, in which Chester defeated the Magpies 2-1, Lowe bundled home a 49th minute goals for the visitors before going in goal after an injury to John Danby, and despite being beaten by Mike Edwards, he was able to make a couple of fine saves to earn Chester the three points.

He will be expected to form a potent striker partnership with Bury's Andy Bishop, who has become one of the most consistent goalscorers in League Two football since his free transfer move to the Shakers from York City three years ago.
