Adams appointed Vale manager

Port Vale have ended a long wait for the appointment of the successor to Dean Glover by announcing the appointment of Micky Adams as their new manager. Adams, who left Brighton & Hove Albion in February with the Seagulls languishing in the relegation zone, has had plenty of success in the past but has struggled in his most recent managerial jobs.

The Valiants struggled last season, despite being one of the pre-season favourites to challenge for promotion in their first season back in League Two, and Dean Glover was hounded out by supporters after the sacking of Lee Sinnott. The new appointment represents a more experienced manager, but it is definately a risk when you scrutinise Adams' recent record.

After leaving Leicester City, Adams struggled to lead Coventry City towards the top half of the Championship in his two years at the Ricoh Arena, and was eventually sacked to be replaced by Chris Coleman, while at Brighton he was expected to challenge for at least the play-offs after being brought in controversially to replace Dean Wilkins, who had lead the Seagulls to a position just outside the play-offs in the previous season. When Adams left the Withdean, Brighton were in the relegation zone and only a Russell Slade inspired late rally saved them from relegation.

Chesterfield are now the only managerless League Two side, but they are expected to announce John Sheridan as their new boss at a press conference on Tuesday.
