Ishmel Demontagnac started his career as a youngster at Arsenal, before his youth career took him to Walsall via Charlton Athletic. He made the breakthrough at the Bescot Stadium as a 17 year-old, scoring and making an assist on his debut. He picked up the club's young player of the year award in his first season and was linked with a big money move away from the Saddlers.

His tendency to react angrily in matches led to dismissals for violent conduct however and Richard Money preferred to use Demontagnac from the bench, leading to his career stagnating somewhat. It was under Jimmy Mullen that his antics finally caught up with him as, after being sent off eight minutes after coming on in an FA Cup tie with Scunthorpe, he was arrested on suspicion of a breach of the peace. Walsall terminated his contract after a "series of breaches of club discipline".

He had trials at a number of clubs, including Crystal Palace, Charlton and Leeds United before finally joining Ian Holloway at Blackpool. He scored on his full debut for the Seasiders but failed to establish himself and ended the season on loan at Chesterfield, where he scored twice. Despite making his Premier League debut at Arsenal, he once again failed to break into the side and spent time on loan at Stockport, where he once again impressed. He has signed a one-year deal at Meadow Lane, with the option for a further year.
