There are also doubts over Danny Allsopp, Duncan Jupp & Paul Heffernan, all of whom missed the weekend draw at Tranmere Rovers.
"It is just too much of a risk to take, we have enough players out, we can't afford to pick up any more injuries." Billy Dearden told the Evening Post.
"We will have them in for a light session today, then they will have tomorrow off.
"But the injury situation does not get any better.
"Nicky Fenton has picked up a hip injury from Saturday, while Jeff Whitley has a bug and didn't train yesterday.
"Both are obviously doubts for Barnsley.
"It is a big game for us, obviously because they are also at the wrong end of the table, but also because they are one of the bigger teams in the division." The Magpies boss added.
