Poll Result: We're happy with signings

Despite having missed out on a number of potential targets to fill the much-reported second striker slot, the month of January will have been described as anything but fruitless as far as manager Gudjon Thordarson is concerned.

Blue skies loom for Gudjon's side
Bringing in three new faces to the ‘Lane, Gudjon has seen his side’s fortunes revived during the opening month of the new year with his side having failed to claim a point in only one of their six January fixtures.

Wins against Barnet, Darlington, Shrewsbury and Chester were blemished only by a single defeat against table-topping Wycombe, and a draw at home to promotion-chasing Northampton. A run of form that saw Thordarson rightly short-listed for the League Two ‘Manger of the Month’ award.

The additions of Lee Crooks, Eugene Dadi and, later, Noe Sissoko have all helped the Magpies resurrect their play-off hopes, having made quality signings worthy of a team with promotion aspirations.

Aside from the introduction of Crooks, Dadi and Sissoko though, Thordarson has also made the signings of Mark De Bolla and Liam Needham to bolster his squad. The real success story, however, lies in the number of departures sealed by the Iceman.

Without the departures of Glynn Hurst, Matty Gill, Adam Tann, Gavin Gordon and Tony Scully (all released) and out-of-favour front-men Andy White and Matty Williams (both on loan), the three additions made may not have been possible, with Gudjon moving effectively within his shoe-string budget.

Despite the frustration of not closing the deal on a second striker aside from Dadi, the club’s fans have backed their manager in the NCM Poll, with 53 per cent of the Notts faithful in full support of their manager’s dealings.

Surprisingly, however, the split has been a fine one.

Marginally behind the leading group, 46 per cent of fans expressing their satisfaction with the signings bar the Notts boss failing in his attempts to sign a second striker.

Only one per cent of supporters were critical of Gudjon’s transfer moves – an obvious sign of the faith trusted in the Iceman, at least by the vast majority of the Meadow Lane faithful.
