That about sums up yesterday's game. The referee, Mark Warren, was certainly the self- proclaimed 'lead character' in the game and we have to rack our brains to remember the score. Ah yes, 2-2 it was......
|
The game itself struggled to get going, but a bad referee always adds to the atmosphere and this one certainly did that.
 | Clive Platt- Scored! |
| This all made for an exciting last 20 minutes where despite a lot of Notts pressure, Tranmere came away with a point.
Notts could so easily of won this game and if they want to stay in this league, they have to beat the likes of an off-form Tranmere at home.
The team did have an excellent last half an hour though, probably their best of the season, certainly at home.
Darren Caskey, who was excellent, came close to winning it for Notts at the end but it wasn't to be, Stallard also came close but couldn't pull the trigger in time.
Special mentions go to Clive Platt, who had his best game in a Notts shirt, capped off with a well deserved goal, Mark Stallard, who was central to just about everything we did and Ian 'Richo' Richardson, who until kicked in the head by a friendly scouser, was having an outstanding game.
Now to the referee.....
Mr Mark Warren, honourary scouser for the day.
 | Simon Baldry- Was brought down in the box |
| This was the worst performance by a referee I've seen at Meadow Lane for sometime and that is a very hard 'achievement' considering some of the past 'ref's'.
Warren was determined to be the central figure in this game no matter what, giving petty decisions all the time, mainly their way.
However annoying the petty decisions got, marching a goal kick forwards 10 yards for example, it was the big decisions that he got very wrong, that annoyed me.
Ryan Taylor should of been sent off for cracking Ian Richardson's nose, of that I have no doubt. He wasn't. Who knows, if Tranmere played with 10 men for 50 minutes there could of been a different outcome.
Simon Baldry also appeared to be wrestled to the ground for a penalty, nothing given.
Stallard was booked for dissent, same punishment as kicking someone in the head, great decision Mr Warren.
The moment that summed up Warren's game perfectly was when he made Ian Baraclough go off the field, despite the fact he never received treatment, just to wave him back on about 2 seconds later.
Surely Warren shouldn't be allowed to ref a game of this standard again, Football League take note.
Positives from yesterday
Clive Platt We scored twice in a game A good 30 minutes We climbed up the table by one place. On Tuesday there were no positives, an improvement!
 | Quote of the weekend from Reidy |
| Negatives from yesterday
Richo could be out for a while The Ref- will be what this game will be remembered for. Sloppy goals conceded Billy's refusal to play the youngsters, despite them all impressing when given a chance.
Ipswich Tuesday then, a half chance of an upset, a half chance of more than 4,500 bothering to go.
Don't hold your breath for either.....
Finally the last word must go to Peter Reid who, when asked whether he'd still be talking to Steve Bruce after bad decisions by officials cost his team, replied: "Yeah ofcourse, it's not his fault his dad was running the line"
Step forward Ryan Taylor and Mark Warren.
U PIES!!
